Happy 2014! We’ve been busy here at KCD since our last issue and are also excited about what we have coming up! This fall, we reorganized the structure of the Alumni Board, resulting in what we are calling the Alumni Advisory Council. The Alumni Advisory Council will meet three times a year (each fall, winter, and spring). Council members will be briefed on current happenings at KCD, and each meeting will include a roundtable discussion of an issue relevant to our graduates. There are currently 25 members of the Alumni Advisory Council, and we welcome anyone who is interested in participating. Our first fall meeting included a discussion about making it easier for alumni to support KCD by donating. There was great support for an option to give or pledge by texting. We’re now in the process of researching companies that can help us achieve that goal. At our winter meeting, we discussed strategic planning and our vision for the future of KCD. Both discussions have been beneficial and will help guide how we focus on and communicate with our alumni.
We’re also planning to be more active on social media this year. I know that your connections to KCD often lie with faculty, fine arts, and sports. Therefore, we will be posting photos with more frequency so you can check on what is important to you. Join us on Facebook (Kcd Bearcat), Twitter at (@kcdalumni), and Instagram (kcdalumni).
We have a couple of big events coming up, so mark your calendars! On June 2, we’ll host our annual KCD Golf Scramble at Standard Country Club. On October 17, we hope you’ll help us celebrate Homecoming at our Alumni BBQ. This event also piggybacks on Bearcat Festival, so it’s a great day of fun for the whole family! More information about these events is going out as the dates get closer.
